Golf in Malaga: 6 Courses Near the City and Airport

Looking for golf in Málaga without spending your trip driving across the Costa del Sol? Málaga city and its immediate surroundings give you six useful choices: a seaside round beside Málaga Airport, two city courses, a nine-hole academy and two nearby 18-hole alternatives. This guide compares published green fees, visitor access, club hire and hotel bases for a one-day game or a two-week golf break.

Which Málaga golf course fits your trip?

  • Flying in for one round: choose Parador de Málaga Golf for 18 holes and the simplest stay-and-play arrangement. It is beside the airport and beach; expect some aircraft noise.
  • Only time for nine holes: El Candado is in Málaga city; the Jiménez Academy is on the airport side in Torremolinos. Parador also has a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course, which is a different experience from its full 18.
  • Want a full round near the centre: enquire about a weekday morning at Guadalhorce before building your schedule around it.
  • Staying a week or more: add Añoreta to the east and Lauro inland. Check traffic for your actual tee time rather than treating every course as a city-centre course.

One day, two days, a week or a fortnight?

Suggested rounds by stay length: one round in one day, one to two in two days, three to four in a week, six to eight in fifteen days

Time in MálagaSuggested golfSimple plan
One dayOne roundParador for 18 holes, or a nine-hole academy round if your licence is arranged.
Two daysOne or two roundsParador plus El Candado; swap in Guadalhorce only after confirming a weekday visitor slot.
Seven daysThree or four roundsMix Parador, Añoreta and an inland course with days free for Málaga city.
Fifteen daysSix to eight roundsRotate the six venues, with rest days. A split city/east base may be more pleasant than crossing town for every round.

Worth calculating for frequent players: Lauro lists a €375 unlimited weekly pass in medium season versus €72 for one standard 18-hole round. Six rounds at that rate cost €432, so the pass can pay from round six. From 5 October to 30 November, the high-season pass is €495 versus €85 per round; six cost €510. Confirm dates, conditions, availability and peak-time supplements. This pass is unlikely to suit our suggested three or four rounds in a week.

What British visitors should check before booking

Licence and handicap: the Royal Spanish Golf Federation says a valid federation licence is required to play in Spain. A temporary licence can be arranged for foreign tourists without Spanish residence documents through the regional federation. Ask your chosen club how to obtain it and whether it has a handicap requirement before paying. The Jiménez Academy specifically asks green-fee players for a current RFEG licence.

Travelling without clubs: Parador lists club hire at €35; Jiménez lists a half set at €20; Añoreta lists club rental from €32 and Lauro a set at €45. Reserve a right- or left-handed set and check what is included. A buggy, trolley and lesson are separate purchases.

Getting around: the airport C1 train reaches Málaga Centro Alameda in around 12 minutes, according to Aena, but does not take you to these clubhouses. For one round, a taxi or an on-course hotel may be simplest. For several venues, compare a hire car with parking costs; see our Málaga Airport guide and car-hire tips.

Quick answers

Where can I play golf near Málaga Airport?

Parador de Málaga Golf is the straightforward 18-hole choice beside the airport, with a hotel on site. The Jiménez Academy in Torremolinos is a nearby nine-hole alternative. Allow time for transfers, check-in and airport security.

Can I play nine holes in Málaga?

Yes. El Candado and the Jiménez Academy have nine-hole layouts; Parador offers a separate nine-hole pitch and putt as well as its full course.

Do UK golfers need a licence to play in Málaga?

Check the Spanish federation’s temporary tourist licence route with the club in advance. Bring evidence of your handicap if the club requests it. A UK club membership card alone may not settle the Spanish licence requirement.

What is the cheapest published nine-hole green fee here?

Among the published 2026 rates we checked, the Jiménez Academy lists €20 for nine holes after 2pm and €23 at other times. El Candado lists €23.50 for non-members after 3pm on weekends and holidays in April–October. Recheck tee times and terms.
