Art Exhibitions in Malaga

The city is fast gaining itself a reputation for excellent art. As well as the permanent collections, the following temporary exhibitions form part of Malaga events in January.

CAC Malaga – until 17 January, there’s still the chance to see Michael Borremans realism exhibition whose paintings are sometimes calming and sometimes disturbing. View Marina Abramovic’s extraordinary 4-minute Self Portrait video and Jose Mª Yturralde’s wonderful colour palettes.

Russian Museum – last chance to see one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of work by Pavel Filonov even seen outside Russia. Known as the ‘seer of the invisible’, Filonov’s work is an explosion of colour and detail.

Pompidou Centre – Women photographers from the 1920s and 30s are showcased until 24 January.

Other Malaga Events in January

Carnival – starting on 30 January and continuing until 7 February, expect a full week of drag queens, fancy-dress parades, traditional murgas and compases competitions plus the tragic burial of the sardine on 7 February. Calendar of events is here. We’ll be doing a full blog post on this nearer the time to give you the full picture of what’s on (and why).

150 years of Malaga railways – an exhibition looking at the history of the railway in the province including the stretch through the (in)famous Caminito del Rey. At the Municipal Museum on Paseo de Reding.
