Museum Shops in Malaga
Although Malaga has over 30 museums (and counting), the choice of museum shops isn’t so good. And some museums in the city have no shop at all. However, several have excellent shops with a great selection of things to buy. Read on to discover our guide to the best museum shops in Malaga.
Centro de Arte Contemporáneo (CAC Malaga)
Southern Spain’s best centre for cutting-edge contemporary art has an excellent shop. It’s small but comes jam-packed with books. Most are art books – some general, but most focusing on artists featured at CAC exhibitions. There’s also a good choice of children’s books (and a comfy mat for kids to sit on while they browse). You can buy posters of works exhibited at the museum and some gift items (such as a Mark Ryden plate as below).
Why visit the shop?
To buy an art book that’s difficult to find elsewhere.
Can you go to the shop without going to the museum?
Yes. The shop is located to the left-hand side of CAC.
Can you museum-shop online?
Yes. Visit the shop and buy online here.
Opening hours
The CAC museum shop opens at the same time as the museum: Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 8pm.
Carmen Thyssen Museum
We think this is the best of the bunch of museum shops in Malaga because it offers the best variety beyond art books and posters. This is also the only museum shop with a large window display. And it’s a good one too – check it out as you walk past on Calle CompañĂa. The shop stocks an excellent choice of postcards, both of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. You can also buy gifts themed on the art works on display in the gallery.
Why visit the shop?
Great gifts for children and adults, which make the perfect souvenir from Malaga.
Can you go to the shop without going to the museum?
Yes. The shop is accessed directly from Calle Compañia.

Museum of Malaga
Malaga’s newest museum has a fair-sized shop selling a good range of products themed around the museum contents. We like the choice of postcards, better than in most of the museum shops in Malaga. The range of t-shirts is also good.

Picasso Museum
The Picasso Museum has 2 museum shops, both of which (unsurprisingly) focus almost exclusively on Picasso. The larger of the shops (located at the back of the museum) has probably one of the largest collections of books about Picasso in the world. If you’re a fan of the Malaga artist, take a seat and browse the many coffee-table books to your heart’s content. The shops also have a good range of postcards and Picasso-themed gifts.
Why visit the shop?
To buy postcards of the exhibition pictures you like best to make up for the fact that you can’t take your own photos.
Can you go to the shop without going to the museum?
Yes. You need to access the Picasso Museum via Calle Alcazabilla – look for the steps up to an alleyway to the left of El Pimpi restaurant. Read more about this hidden corner of Malaga.
Can you museum shop online?
No.
Opening hours
Daily March-June & Sept-Oct 10am to 7pm, Nov-Feb 10am to 6pm, July-Aug 10am to 8pm.

Pompidou Centre
Like the Pompidou Centre itself, the shop thinks outside the box. It offers a wide range of unusual gifts and memorabilia, perhaps the best at any of the museum shops in Malaga. As well as a selection of art books, you can find t-shirts, puzzles, games, ceramics, pens, children’s toys… all loosely based around the theme of modern art. Picasso puts in an appearance, but this museum shop also features lots of other artists.
Why visit the shop?
Best place to buy a funky souvenir of your visit to Malaga. And it’s the only art museum shop open on a Monday!
Can you go to the shop without going to the museum?
Yes, but you need to get a (free) ticket from the reception desk first.
Can you museum-shop online?
No.
Opening hours
Wednesday to Monday 9.30am to 8pm.

Russian Museum
This one’s small in size but big on content. As well as a selection of art books, the shop has posters, ceramics, textiles and gifts on sale. As you’d expect, it’s mostly Russian-themed – we love the nativity scene Russian dolls and the t-shirts. Good choice of children’s books in Spanish, English and Russian.
Why visit the shop?
For very special gifts.
