Malaga nominated for Best European Destination 2019
Malaga features as 1 of the 20 best European destinations 2019. The city will be competing for the absolute title with 20 other popular places to take a holiday in Europe. Voting takes place early next year.
Malaga has been chosen by the organizers, European Best Destinations, because it’s “a unique destination in Europe”. According to the nominee criteria, Malaga is a city “combining tradition and modernity, gastronomy, the beach and culture along with a world-class selection of museums”. As the official communiqué says, “Malaga is a city that leaves no one indifferent”.
Serious competition for Best European Destination 2019
In its bid for the title, Malaga faces some stiff competition. Among the other 20 nominees are well-established tourist hotspots such as Rome, Vienna, Lisbon and Edinburgh. Other bright lights include Geneva, Bratislava and the Azores. All 20 are, of course, very worthy candidates.
As well as the accolade, the winning destination reaps other big benefits. According to the organisers, the winning destination can expect 15% more tourism. Media coverage typically sees an increase of up to 80%. This increase in awareness has already been noted in the 9 previous winners of the award. Past Best Destinations have included the Polish city of Wroclaw, Best European Destination this year, and Oporto in Portugal in 2017.
