Your guide to covid-19 insurance in Andalucia

From 1 January 2021, the Andalusian regional government is offering all international tourists guaranteed covid-19 insurance. The policy covers healthcare, repatriation and accommodation during accommodation for the length of your stay. Read on for a guide to covid-19 insurance in Andalucia.

When is the cover valid?

The insurance is available from 1 January 2021 until 30 June 2022.

Is it being continued for 2022?

Yes, the regional government has announced that cover is valid until 30 June 2022.

Who gets covid-19 insurance in Andalucia cover?

All foreign visitors to Andalusia during 2021. To qualify for the cover, you must be non-resident, visiting for tourist purposes (i.e. a holiday) and stay in registered accommodation. FIND OUT THE LATEST ON COVID IN MALAGA

Is it only for tourists who arrive by air?

No, the covid-19 insurance covers non-resident foreigners who arrive for a holiday in the region by any means of transport (air, sea or land).

What age groups does it cover?

All age groups – the cover has no age limits.

What are the conditions?

To qualify for cover, you must stay in registered and regulated accommodation.

What is registered and regulated accommodation?

For the purposes of the covid-19 insurance, you must stay in one of the following types of accommodation:

  • Hotels
  • Hostals
  • Touristic apartments (apartamento turĂ­stico, defined as several apartments in the same building, run by the same company and with centralized services such as a reception area)
  • Self-catering apartments that are registered with the Junta de AndalucĂ­a as a VFT (Viviendas con Fines TurĂ­sticos).
  • Campsites
  • Registered rural accommodation.

Do I qualify for the insurance if I stay in a self-catering apartment?

Yes if it is registered with the Junta de AndalucĂ­a as a VFT (Viviendas con Fines TurĂ­sticos). We suggest you double-check with the owner before you book..

What about if I stay with friends?

Do I have to stay in one place?

No, as long as you stay within Andalusia and in registered and regulated accommodation, you are covered.

What about travel restrictions?

Covid-19 insurance has nothing to do with travel restrictions (to and from Andalusia) or within the region during your stay. Read the latest on covid-19 restrictions in Malaga.

What cover does covid-19 insurance in Andalucia include?

The insurance covers 3 main areas related to covid-19:

Healthcare

The policy includes cover for medical, surgical and pharmaceutical costs as well as hospitalization up to a total of €4,000 per person. Note that the policy only covers you if you test positive for covid-19.

Repatriation

The policy covers costs for repatriation to your home country for further medical treatment or in the event of death.

Obligatory self-isolation

The covid-19 insurance also covers you if you have to go into self-isolation (quarantine) during your stay in the region. The policy pays related costs up to a maximum of €5,000 during 15 days. It also covers costs for your companion if they are your spouse, partner or close relative.

Is the covid-19 insurance free?

Apart from an excess of €100 payable for healthcare, the policy is free to all non-resident foreign tourists visiting Andalucia during 2021.

If I have travel insurance, do I still qualify for the covid-19 insurance?

Yes and the Andalusian policy is intended as extra cover for visitors. It complements aspects that your insurance might not cover.
