Buying Property in Malaga & the Costa del Sol
Guide to Malaga Real Estate
How a property introduction works
Thinking about buying property in Malaga or on the Costa del Sol? Start with the questions that shape a successful search: where you want to live, what your budget can buy, how the purchase works and whether your intended use is permitted. Our guides help you compare the city, coastal towns and inland alternatives before arranging viewings.
Start with your buying question
| Your question | Start here |
|---|---|
| What is happening to prices? | Malaga property prices and the market |
| Where should I buy in Malaga city? | Compare Malaga districts |
| Which Costa del Sol location suits me? | Compare coastal areas and lifestyles |
| How do I buy property in Spain? | Follow the buying process in Malaga |
| What will I pay beyond the asking price? | Understand taxes and purchase costs |
| Can I buy with less than €250,000? | Explore a realistic smaller-budget search |
| Can I rent the property out? | Check rental rules and build a return calculation |
How much should you budget?
For a search in Malaga city or the most sought-after coastal locations, €250,000 is a useful starting benchmark for the property price, with purchase costs on top. Below that, choice is limited and compromises are likely: a smaller home, a less central address, renovation or a location further inland. It is not a market-wide minimum price.
Separate the price you can pay for the home from your total cash available. Taxes, legal work, notary and registration, financing costs and any repairs reduce what you can spend on the property itself. See the worked purchase-cost examples.
A home, a move or an investment?
- Second home: consider access from the airport, maintenance while you are away and everyday comfort outside the holiday season.
- Permanent move: prioritise transport, healthcare, schools where relevant, noise, parking and the daily services you will actually use.
- Rental investment: check that the letting model is lawful for the exact property and municipality before relying on projected income.
How our introductions work
Guide to Malaga Real Estate helps you understand the area and set out your buying plans. We review enquiries ourselves and may suggest a property professional suited to your budget, preferred location and type of home. Before any introduction, we identify the proposed partner and ask for your permission to share your details.
Before an introduction, our process includes checking the professional’s identity, relevant qualifications or registrations where applicable, insurance and local coverage. We do not promise a property match or a particular purchase outcome. You choose whether to proceed with the proposed partner.
We may receive a referral fee for an introduction or a resulting transaction. Any partner’s role and applicable fees will be explained before you proceed. An introduction does not replace independent legal advice.
Tell us what you are looking for
You can enquire with a budget below €250,000. Please tell us whether you are open to inland areas, a smaller home or renovation, so that we can assess a realistic route. Partner coverage varies; an enquiry is not a guarantee that an agent can take on your search.
Looking for a home to rent first?
Our long-term rental guide covers a separate search. If you are undecided about buying, spending time in an area as a resident can help you test the daily routine.
