La Plancha Taberna

Slightly off the beaten track (but quieter because of it), this modern venue serves up tasty tapas and sharing plates at wallet-friendly prices. And, all dishes are gluten-free, making La Plancha Taberna Malaga the perfect choice for anyone with gluten allergy or intolerance wanting to enjoy quality local cuisine.

It’s handily located just around the corner from the main train station and the Hotel Barceló. Allow around 15 minutes to get here from the city centre, making it an easy-to-reach lunch or dinner option.

As its name suggests, the restaurant specialises in dishes “a la plancha”, Spanish for food cooked on a hot grill. Expect to find pinchitos (skewers of meat), Iberian pork and chicken in the “a la plancha” section of the menu, where Spanish staples such as gambas al pil-pil also feature.

In the non-grilled section of the menu, there’s also a wide range of dishes. Choose from national classics such as croquettes and patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) or go for local favourites such as gazpachuelo and porra antequerana.

Typical local ingredients make an appearance in the chorizo from Ardales (near El Caminito del Rey) and fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables.

Most dishes come as tapas or a full portion. Tapas represent amazing value and start at just €3.30, while the most expensive dish (the Iberian pork) comes in at just €18.50. As a result, you can try several dishes and dine at a very reasonable price.

Gluten-free dining in Malaga

La Plancha Taberna belongs to the Malaga Gluten-free Association. Certification from Malaga Council ensures peace of mind if you’re gluten allergic or intolerant, not easy to find on the local restaurant scene.

But rest assured, gluten tolerant diners are well catered for too, and this restaurant has something for everyone.

Don’t get so carried away with the tapas that you have no room for pudding. La Plancha Taberna dessert menu doesn’t run long, but it’s certainly sweet and who can resist homemade jam?

Staff are friendly and helpful. And as one recent review on Google says, “the people working there including the manager are also amazing and made us feel so special.”

Inside, the venue has an industrial vibe, with tables or bar stool seating. The high ceilings provide excellent acoustics and although the space is on the small size, it doesn’t feel cramped. The pleasant outside terrace is spacious and shady in the summer.
