In search of gourmet burgers in Malaga
Where to find the best burgers in Malaga
Burgers definitely aren’t one of the typical things to eat in Malaga, but more and more venues are adding them to their menu. But where do you go to get a good burger? We’ve been in search of gourmet burgers in Malaga.
For a gourmet burger you obviously need to get beyond the Burger Kings and McDonalds that pop up all over the city. And when we say gourmet we mean a burger made with the best fresh ingredients (not necessarily meat) and served with style. In our search for gourmet burgers in Malaga we’ve tried meaty ones, fish variations and a couple of excellent vegetarian options plus a burger for the vegans in the dining party.
The following venues – listed in alphabetical order – tick all the boxes on our list of must-haves in gourmet burgers in Malaga.
Brunch-it
This up-and-coming venue on the equally up-and-coming Calle Carreteria hasn’t been open for long, but it’s already a firm favourite with locals and tourists. On the menu are 5 burgers, all made with quality ingredients. Choose from beef with bacon, beef with cheese, turkey, vegetarian (made with spinach and topped with carrot mousse) and in a nod to vegans, tofu. All come with homemade chips and the meat burgers include the Brunchit house sauce.
We tried all these burgers and never been disappointed. And if you don’t want a burger, there’s a great brunch menu plus a range of salads.
We like: the homemade organic bread rolls and the décor.
Price: €8-10
Location: Calle Carretería 46 and Calle Alhondiga 2.
KGB
The KGB Bull was one of the first gourmet burgers in Malaga and so deserves a mention in this blog post. It’s also delicious! Made with oxtail (so expect a strong taste), this burger comes with Havarti cheese, rocket and an unusual beer flavoured mayo. This venue is tiny so you probably won’t get a table, but perch at the bar and tuck in!
We like: the menu variety – round the world in a selection of delicious tapas.
Price: €4.80
Location: Calle Fresca 12

Picnic Soho
This busy venue in the heart of the Soho district doesn’t have a huge choice of food, but if you’re looking for gourmet burgers in Malaga this is the right place. Choose from meat options or the vegan burger – 1 of the best available in Malaga, we think. Burgers come with chips or salad and are served on scraps of ‘newspaper’ on boards.
For dessert don’t forget to try 1 (or 2) of the homemade cakes with a cup of coffee.
We like: the food truck décor and the picnic tables – great when there are lots of you.

Restaurante Batik
Part of the Alcazaba Premium Hostel on Calle Alcazabilla, Batik has quickly made a name for itself as one of the best-rated restaurants in Malaga. On the menu is a choice of 4 burgers, all with unusual twists. We like the beef with boletus mushrooms and red cheese, and the Pekinese duck version. The Río Frío trout burger with black garlic aioli is on our must-try list for our next visit.
We like: the upstairs roof terrace for an after-burger cocktail and amazing views of the Alcazaba Fortress.
