Stray very slightly off the beaten track in Malaga and you’ll find one of the best restaurants in Malaga. Just yards from the Picasso Museum, Eboka offers fine dining and wining at very reasonable prices. Manager Antonio Fernández, something of a food and wine expert, and chef Pachu Barrera, take traditional recipes, give them a modern touch and serve them with some of the best wines in Malaga and Spain.

Choose to dine outside on the terrace on the quiet alleyway that winds it way to the back of the Picasso Museum. Or inside in roomy but intimate surroundings where wines are showcased against stunning leaf-feature wallpaper and large windows.
Signature dishes on the traditional cuisine menu include Malaga cured sausage tartare, fried octopus and toasted noodles for starters. Staples on the mains menu include Malaga kid goat, Iberian pork cheek in Malaga wine sauce plus fresh fish of the day, often tuna and corvina. There’s a fixed menu plus a weekly list of specials that varies depending on the season and what’s available at the market on the day.
Eboka makes an ideal venue for sharing plates – that way you all get to try the variety on the menu. Or you can go for one of the tasting menus. The pairing menu (5 courses for €49) changes with the seasons too and can be adapted to the diner’s taste. The Malaga-produce based one makes a great introduction to local food and dishes.
As you’d expect, the wine list runs long and Antonio is on hand to recommend the best one for each dish. There’s always a good selection of wines to try by the glass – great news if you want to try a selection with your meal. It’s also worth checking out the craft beers.
Service is excellent and staff are more than happy to advice on which dishes to choose and how much to order. Antonio can recommend the right wine for the dish to ensure both the food and wine share centre stage.
Prices range between €5 to €14 for starters and from €18 to €26 for mains. All can be served as sharing plates and portions are good-sized.
